Ideals That Matter….my Paradigm

I can but be who I am,
and often people see heart and ascribe weakness,
yet love is more powerful
than any army, any oppression,
and our hearts are what defines us in life,
not stature, wealth of any superficial pursuit.
I would rather live a life of non-contention
than spend it enraged and blaming,
and being unhappy because nothing satisfies,
instead I choose acceptance,
being grateful for every advantage
and immersing myself in ideals that matter.
Art, beauty, love, compassion, forgiveness,
kindness are pursuits and ideals
that to me represent life,
and appreciating nature, the environment
and all living things is necessary in my mind,
in finding true happiness.
In age I have solace in afforded wisdom,
and I no longer choose to be immersed
in the anger and blame of today’s disease of dissatisfaction,
never happy with what one has, who one is
or the circumstances one finds themselves,
and to this end, I relent.
Quietness of mind and solitude helps,
for the turmoil that exists around me
is to me superficial, and I observe it
with hope others will realise its pointlessness,
and in sentience, step back
and in kindness understand, but not be involved.
Question everything, but never relinquish love,
for that is the answer,
the resounding truth in redemption,
and the path to a compassionate and caring future
that only we can begin,
in one decision of epiphany: being happy.

Such a beautiful concept of life Tony..it is so hard to find a contented person these days..however much we are blessed with, we always seem to find a new excuse for being dissatisfied..being happy is a choice that would ultimately let us face life in a optimistic way.. each time i read one of your poems, i feel a bit more wiser..thank you for all the wisdom you so selflessly share..
I’m pleased you relate and enjoy my thoughts Anjana. Your kindness and support is always very much appreciated my friend. Have a great day and a wonderful 2017.
Love is the most important thing in life. Regardless of circumstances, if one is guided by love of nature and other aspects of love as you mention, then life is good. If I were to go into the story I just wrote of the widow, I would add a lot more of life to it . If she was happy with her life the way it was, then she would no even worry about the party or what her sister thinks. Yet I wrote an open end to her story to let the reader use their imagination. I like your thoughts on life and love, Tony. There is a lot more to what love is than most people think. Very well penned verse.
Glad you appreciated the thoughts Phyllis, life to me is about perspective and the broader the perspective the more we understand what’s really going on. Take care and Happy New Year. Tis ours tonight, ahead of you. Cheers!
