Falling In and From Love

Falling in love…the easy part

Falling In and From Love
Falling In and From Love…issues of trust

How far in love’s name,
should we fall,
relent on all for one perfect moment,
one perfect possibility,
when so often, that light turns to dust,
and we, in complete commitment,
ravaged by unconditional vulnerability?

Is it worth the trust,
the slap in the face repentance,
for loving so much,
when in heart we gave our all, our very soul,
to a perfect promise,
that turned rabid and tore a whole
in what was once our hearts?

Do we ever heal, ever know that love again,
when once its glimmer brought us to heaven,
then with a striking blow to hell,
and can we love again, like that,
completely, unconditionally
without knowing what can be,
when love dies from ineptitude?

How I nourish that memory,
when love was unrestrained and untethered by fear,
when young hearts let the world be
and immerse their souls in love’s sweet drift,
how complete life can be,
if only we could hold that erratic butterfly,
that elusive aspiration of life.

I do believe that one can find a deep, sincere and lasting love after a love that “once its glimmer brought us to heaven,” has failed. However, there is nothing like those feelings of the first serious love and one should not expect to find the same thing again, for each love relationship will have its own rewards and treasures. It would not be fair to one’s Self or their new love to compare or want what once was with another. I have been there and I know it is very possible to love again in a unique and special relationship that will bring new life to the heart and soul. That first serious love will never die, it just goes to a quieter place. And one day, what destroyed that love will no longer matter and only the good memories will remain, for it is well to remember that the one you once had that divine love with is now a different person than when you first loved each other. This can make us stronger and allow us to find a strong love again to renew the heart and soul and bring your all to the new love. Very emotive verse, Tony, and well penned.

I agree Phyllis, love cannot be compared but often we develop fear as to how love can end, and that takes time to heal. Glad you enjoyed the thoughts

I too think love often comes mixed with fear..dear of losing, fear of rejection and all that..and as you said it exposes the most vulnerable side od us, yet no meaning of existence can be found without it..thank you so much Tony for sharing your beautiful words..
