A Shimmering Kiss

As if on the wings of flight-ed doves,
in sight of horizon’s languid end,
between gilt clouds and
as orange chariot beams commend,
they race across that deep scorched blue
from the slow and weary dying sun,
fading at their ends,
sighing, for the darkness comes;
a calming heart may see the world in bliss,
its light betrothed to the gloaming gift,
as lives churn and time discerns a plight,
before a shallow moon decrees
the oncoming night.
As birds flutter in twilight chill,
dancing in the falling golden hues,
to capture an insect repast in flight,
a hearty meal infused,
as stillness profound pervades and casts,
until the night insists,
as diamonds spattered upon velvet
like a billion shimmering lights do kiss the sky;
and moon ascends its silvery trail,
to glow a face of pale blue refrain,
a smile upon the darkened night,
a soft and gentle reign, until
the dawn does break the same.
What speaks to night,
what ancient quarry echoes time so lost,
to revere the bright and glimmering sight
of so many worlds long past,
and standing under this mantel,
this forever breach of light,
I can but feel so minuscule,
my every breath, my momentary life;
and so I breathe this moist cold air,
this turn of phrase the end of day,
and my heart out reaches eternity,
my small part in proclivity,
to thankful graces given.
