For all that it’s worth
Magic on May Pond

At first the water was calm , quiet, smooth and tranquil , the air almost balmy in the afternoon sun of Novembers “Indian summer”. The shallows near the outlet glasslike and clear, I stood wallowing in this unsettling afternoon for a moment , I say unsettling because I have recently retired, no longer a man on the squirrel cage, no longer one of the masses pushing, rushin,g crowding . And yet, I am quickly getting used to this , actually I was ready for it a long time ago, but just couldn’t make that move economically. So now I have begun to notice little things in nature that I normally wouldn’t have
and I will write of them now.
Magic on May pond
The shallows near the outlet of the pond
the old water gate rusted beyond
the water so clear I can see the bottom
the images wavering like a song
Small lines reflect on the rocky bottom
the sunlit waves creating just this view
they shimmer and shimmer away
as the slight waves bring them anew
The freshwater mussels their broken shells
line the ledge beneath
but then I look up at the tree tops
and know all that God will bequeath
Among them the swaying pointed fir trees
a soft shush in the bows
The wind just Gods loving breath
the angels promise and vows
I know now all about serenity and it begs us
to bend down and watch
there is no earthly equal you know
only this heavenly match
Where am I , I can now only ask
am I in that place called heaven or here on earth
whatever you do though enjoy this
enjoy it for all that it’s worth

Ed, this is a touchingly beautiful piece. With the vivid phrasing you penned I feel as though I am right there with you admiring nature’s beauty and God’s blessing. Great work, dear friend.
It is not until we truly open our eyes, do we see the beauty around us and here you have emoted and penned your observations with eyes wide open. A beautifully penned and inspiring poem my friend.
Very beautiful Ed..loved your words…sometimes when we see nature’s magical gifts, we think that heaven is certainly on the earth itself..thank you so much for sharing..
With heaven being more beautiful than we can imagine and knowing the beauty you speak of here…well it is just breathtaking to think about, isn’t it Ed? Thanks for sharing your bit of heaven with us.
