Wallflower
The tale of a wallflower
She exists as a contrast to this flamboyant world,
a testament to the definition of ordinary,
as a shadow curtailed to the shade behind the curtains
far away from the brightness of spotlights,
always eager to merge into the silence of her surroundings
finding refuge in unseen and secluded corners.
Daintily she walks with tentative steps,
as if struggling to find a specific purpose,
with traces of a half smile plastered on her pale face
to mask the nervousness that consumes her being,
while downcast eyes alternate stoic expressions
of absolute confusion and helplessness.
She keeps mourning the words that die on her lips,
before she could convey her feelings or thoughts,
while future looms in front as an unsolvable riddle,
that needed to be somehow endured or braved,
love, a gamble, too treacherous for her fragile heart,
certain that she is undeserving of even a second glance.
Aloof she remains, wishing she could trade places
with anyone she had ever observed or met,
looking longingly at the vibrant colors of their life
while remaining at the receiving end of sarcasms,
flustered by the kind looks or guiding hands that are offered,
because she is unsure of whom to safely trust.
Thus she keeps waiting by the wide open doors
in the soothing darkness of a self woven cocoon,
till the day she chooses to embrace the light
defying the imaginary shackles imposed by her mind,
before spreading out her wings and flying to conquer
her dreams glimmering on the yonder horizons.

Anjana, I love this poem. You describe the Wallflower in wonderful detail. I can see her ready to spread her wings and soar. Well done and well phrased.
Thank you so much dear Phyllis..I am very grateful for your support and encouragement..
So profoundly sad and eloquently true of a soul broken of self. A rendering beautifully undertaken and so true as to the plight of many people, deprived of self-confidence and worth by the lack of kindness and hurt of other who in truth admire their potential of beauty. This is so delicate and heart-wrenching Anjana, your work so thoughtful and filled with compassion. A truly beautiful work of human experience. Excellent work.
I am truly delighted that you found this meaningful..always grateful for the gift of your time in reading my writes and warm words of encouragement..means a lot to me..
This made me smile, I am actually attracted to the “Wallflower”. I love a woman that is beautiful, but doesn’t really know it…. They are the most honest and caring or at least that has been my experience..
I too think most of them have beautiful hearts if anyone cares to know them..thank you so much for reading and sharing your thoughts Kurt..
Hello Anjana, you have captured the images, thoughts and emotions so well here. Extraordinary piece! Enjoyed it.
Best,
Mel
Thank you so much Mel for reading and leaving behind your kind and encouraging words..I really appreciate it..
As you always write, a perfect description of this sprightly spirit, shattered inside the conclave of her many thoughts, as you color her so many different shades of umber awaiting another brush to bring out the true manifestations of her true colors hidden so long. Expertly presented, with all her nuances brought so perfectly into the forefront of her soul!
Thank you so much dear Donald…you always leave such heartfelt comments for me and I most grateful for your support and encouragement…
The same I can say about a daisy, filling the spring ground with soft beauty, still somehow unnoticed, Your heart dear Anjana is the gentlest that could feel this flower, and could paint all those small important details the way You did, I feel how You found a part of You within it, so within Your words too, and still You are as beautiful as ever,as tender as ever, as special as ever…
Thank you my dear friend Gh..it really means a lot to me to know your thoughts on my words..and I appreciate your kimd words of encouragement so much..have a lovely day!!!
