The Morning Sip

Like zombies they walk,
detached, vacantly looking ahead,
their gaunt faces expressionless,
as their legs perform an automatic task;
shiny new clothes, pressed and spotless,
shoes not scuffed with matching socks,
feet finding path in rhythmic fashion,
row upon row to jobs and action,
yet not a sign of life at all,
synapses down while one thought implores
a glimpse of life in cranial store,
yet without coffee,
without that very first sip,
no brain cell acknowledges
this new day’s trip.
Then like horses at the trough,
they gather in crowds,
and as those paper cups of brew
are sipped and consumed in desperate moods,
slowly one by one, you can hear their sighs,
and suddenly they all come alive,
hailing cabs, rushing to metros,
busy feet dancing on balanced stilettos,
as the rush hour transforms,
fueled and ready, to task the day
with brew a plenty,
and business as usual on parade.

Ahhh! I love this and so true it is, Tony. Without my morning sip, that nectar of the day, I would not even be able to turn on my computer. I do manage to take the little doggie outside, feed and water her, but only if I have set the nectar on to brew first. Marvelous post.
Glad you related, as if you wouldn’t. I don’t think I know anyone who doesn’t require that first shot to wake up. Lol Take care Phyllis
I am so addicted to coffee too..when i go to drop my daughter, i see people exactly as you described walking like zombies..they buy coffee from a nearby shop and only after the first sip, they seem alive..just as you said..thank you so much for sharing..loved it..
We all relate Anjana, the world is entrenched with cafe culture and we all need that heart-starter. So glad you enjoyed it. Have a great day!
