Take a Flying Leap
Take a Flying Leap

Sometimes you just have to do it. When you tried everything else and nothing worked, you may just have
to visualize what you want to happen and take a flying leap into the unknown. This just may give you
some new ideas, new ways you never thought of before. Some may call this method a ‘leap of faith’.
To have faith in Self is what can propel you into finding the right path or solution for you. One must not
actually take a leap off a building or a cliff – it is best to meditate and visualize what may happen if you
do take a flying leap. Meditate on a new approach, take that thought as if it were a real situation and see
what happens in your mind. I was at a staff convention several years ago. As the event coordinator I had
everything set up to run smoothly. And it did until the person who was to give a speech on the
accomplishments of the outgoing president did not show up. I had never in my life before gave a speech and
was not about to. The thought of facing a large room full of people staring at me was terrifying. I asked
several of the committee members if they could give a speech. They all declined. Time was running short
and someone had to get up on stage and honor our outgoing president. I told the committee I had to take a
break. I went outside, found a shady tree and sat on a bench near it. I meditated for about five minutes
and went back in just in time for the committee chair to go up and introduce me.
I walked up on that stage with confidence and gazed back at the audience, focusing on different
individuals, for about three minutes, just smiling at them till they started laughing. Then I said, “I bet you
all are expecting me to say something profound here, aren’t you?” When the laughter died down, I
continued, “Well, I am going to do just that, for the lady who is our outgoing president has done some
remarkable and profound things for all of us.” The rest of my speech went very smooth and when I
introducced our outgoing president there was a standing ovation. I took a flying leap and landed on both
feet.
I once helped a young man who was having a lot of difficulties in life. He had very little confidence in
himself and had to find a job as quickly as possible. He was so fearful of failing a big interview coming up.
I told him to think about exactly how he would like that interview to go then meditate on it for at least
five minutes. He really got into it and I waited for at least ten minutes, focusing on some birds outside the
window. Finally, he broke my concentration by saying, “Okay. I know what to do now. I saw a cliff and
walked over to it, looked down and visualized myself taking a flying leap.”
I asked him what happened. He said, “I flew!”
His interview went quite well and he got the job.

Great stories. You rose to the occasion beautifully. I love the young man’s ending too.
Thank you, Lori. Glad you enjoyed it. I appreciate your kind comment.
Well said Phyllis and an inspiration as to the limitations we put on ourselves. With self-confidence we are free and can do anythoing we choose. An important message and truth of our potential. great work.
Thank you very much, Tony, for your wonderful comment. I really appreciate it. 🙂
Thank you for sharing this story, Phyllis. Public speaking terrifies me, but when I have been forced into it have managed to pull it off. I am facing a current situation where I may be forced to take a leap of faith, however, there are two choices in front of me, both involving some risks. I just need to have confidence to choose the right one.
My pleasure, John. I believe you will choose the right one and do just fine. When we take a leap of faith it is the right one in my experience. Best wishes to you.
Public speaking is also difficult for me also, unless it is to kids who then I can shine telling stories and what not. Enjoyed the read.
Thank you, Kurt. Glad you enjoyed it. Yes, it is easier for me to speak to children also.
