Shallow Minds and Pious Faces

Shallow minds pledge definitive trust,
when lies fall so easily from their thin lips,
and placation is an easy twist,
when intention is never worn with favor;
and so we are confounded by fledgling liars,
those who are dim enough to think
their deceit unmade,
but for a heart open and a mind true,
each one of these aberrations,
lost within their own failings,
are neon lights in a dark room.
My heart often aches,
for I see I’m surrounded by them,
displayed often in little ways, but liars nonetheless,
feeling their deceit an easier path
to climb that imaginary ladder to fulfillment,
a betterment of sorts,
based on beating someone else,
a churlish selfish art of perceived growth,
wanting in every respect,
and revealing the limited mind
of a true narcissist.
Shallow not just of mind but soul,
uninformed, inexperienced and never whole
they, like snakes slither around their next intention,
their next perceived victory,
and with pious face, unquestioned self-belief,
they squirm like vermin in the shadows,
waving banners of faith and righteousness,
when all along they are the vile extremists
of seeking power and control,
just to float their agenda,
win in the name of delusion.

It is sad that some have chosen such a path in life. Like false prophets they spread good but do evil. What does it get them but a lonely end in life? Very strong wording, but oh so true. Well done, Tony.
Glad you related Phyllis. Cheers!
