From Our Own Eyes

Eyes we see, choices we make

From Our Own Eyes
From Our Own Eyes…the path we take

Through our eyes….responsibility

The wings of angels comfort
a wayward wretch, too far from life to know
its purpose, its direction, yet
comfort determines nothing
and kindness is temporary,
for the path alone does bring the learning,
turn a life around,
and steps are made through intention
not just guidance.

We may wait forever
for someone to pluck us out of the hole we dug,
expectation a lost hope
without the will to climb out ourselves,
and the world we create is bereft of movement,
should we rely on anything else
to make our lives complete,
so, helpless we have never been,
without strength a lie,
and life if not wanted comes from our own eyes.

Blame is fruitless,
a venting of superfluous measure,
and responsibility is ours always,
for each life is singular and present,
equipped with the capacity to flourish,
or be limited by choice,
for it is ours to determine,
and no matter what circumstances we endure,
we are meant to rise.
