Facing the Rage

Furious, within that deep abyss
that holds my shadow self,
when words of calamitous slander
fall at my feet and I in anger engage;
no slight of hand, no weapon scourge,
no blaze of flames from darkened eyes,
or words of rebut to remove the stain,
but a dark soulless self, intent on annihilation,
a harsh response that shadow self does want.
Yet I, with open arms accept that darkness rising,
but do not adhere to such vile acts
against the contentions of another mind
that casts those lies for my reply,
enticing war and retribution;
for I in anger’s wake,
prefer to watch the cursing, as
the slanderous lies from sharp tongues glide on by,
to dissipate from this mind’s eye.
Anger is a puerile state,
a thoughtless response to being questioned,
being attacked based on an opinion,
and the energy is like an illness,
a dark and wretched force of negativity
that hurts us more than the direction of our anger,
so I relent, try to understand the confusion of people
effected by these feelings,
and in non-response, there is nowhere to go,
a one sided argument,
like talking to yourself in the mirror.

Wow! Rage and anger is so destructive. Very well depicted, Tony. Well done.
I hit post too soon. It is also inspirational on how one can let accusations just glide by. Yes, well done, Tony.
Glad you related Phyllis, Anger is one thing we need to learn to control. Look at the world, how easily people lose their minds over nothing. Cheers!
Oh my. Tell us how you feel. lol. Very well describes anger. And that photo is a very graphic example. Our world is so full of rage it’s ridiculous. I think a lot of rage (I’m not talking about your average, garden variety anger) is either from great fear, ego run amok, or pure evil. It’s a battle that is not easily won without humility. As you have said before, taking responsibility. When you are in a word of rage, it is also very difficult not to succumb and be sucked into retaliation, immobilizing fear, and/or the overall despair and discouragement it brings to people who want to make the world a better place.
So true Lori, there is so much rage around us and it can entice people to find their own rage. If only people would realize how futile it is and find love in their hearts, the world would be a different place. But as you say, we are not perfect and learning here is our task. Cheers!
