A More Meaningful Existence

What say you to peace, and
what would you do to acquire it,
perhaps voice an opinion,
hold a placard, write a letter or type a message,
yet the only way to peace
is to find it within ourselves:
to relent on blame, to accept all life as equal,
and to know in your heart hate is wrong,
and if you can change yourself,
rid yourself of hatred, blame and malicious thought,
how long before all those you knew
came to the same conclusion
and found peace within themselves,
peace would then spread like a pandemic of good?
What say you to love, and
what would you do to acquire it,
perhaps fall in love, hang out at bars or clubs,
looking for Mr or Mrs Right,
or perhaps learn to love yourself,
regardless of innate faults and ineptitude,
and accept who you are, as perfect as you can be,
and then find that love in other people,
their potential and grace of living,
and in knowing that
love life with compassion, understanding,
knowing we all have a place and value in existence,
and should be appreciated
regardless of race, creed or religion?
We all want to change the world,
live in peace and in the loving arms of acceptance
being an integral part of a productive and happy life,
yet, if we cannot change those attitudes
and negative thoughts within us,
how can we expect the world to change in a positive way,
when our judgement, our blame, our ridicule
just fires the hatred we say we want to banish
to create a better world within which our children can prosper;
blindly we complain about the state of the world,
but we haven’t even addressed within us,
the root of the problem,
the fact that we are each individually responsible
for the global crisis that confronts us.
Find love and peace within,
and the world cannot remain as it is,
and will change as we do to a more meaningful existence.

Nahmaste’. One can recognize and honor the place within us where love and peace begins. We cannot help others to love till we find it within and let it spread, to become the core of peace. Very well stated message, Tony. Great work.
Thanks Phyllis, yes its a basic truth, everything starts within and radiates outward. take care.
A meaningful and well written poem, Tony. I hope that more and more people start thinking like you.
