Those Seeking Value

The difference between proclamation
and simply being, is a great divide,
as the former infers a different intention,
and that is why
those who accomplish much in the world,
may well be unknown to most,
in their anonymity and wish
for nothing other than the task at hand.

Caring is without ego,
compassion and helping a freedom of choice,
and exalting oneself for an action is self-serving,
not a selfless act of giving for its own sake,
and so many people
live a wolf’s life in sheep’s clothing,
vying for attention
and as they see, a deserved recognition.

Recognition is fuel to the ego,
a bolstering of the self through someone else’s eyes,
an attesting of value to support a view
that the self needs support due to lack of self-esteem,
and many people are desperate for this need,
this value given process
that allows them to believe in themselves,
and aspire to what they feel they should.

The irony is clear,
those who proclaim the loudest are usually
those most suffering from doubt and low self-esteem,
their need for notoriety,
the appearance of superiority on all levels
the telling of their inadequacy,
and so we may see them preening, strutting,
trying to find a peace within, a value.
