A Summer Symphony…so loud
A Summer Symphony…

And the cricket spoke in rasping terms,
the sound cut through the night,
and toad so overwhelmed did squint,
his mellow call a faint lost plight,
as owl on high did hoot in question,
his round sound shattered in all directions,
as fox and badger, in still repose,
ears all pricked in silent loath,
as cricket’s incessant breathless ode
did carry on for hours.
And moon did cringe in voiceless whinge,
its luminous light quite nice,
but prevented not those ears to singe
from this harrowing rasping call,
and trees in breeze of whispers quiet,
drowned out by invisible insect might,
in shadows hid an endless bid
the night its bell to toll,
as echoes of life just dimmed to nigh,
all else just sigh in surrender.
Then bad to worse another verse
as crickets all do join,
and now a crescendo of rasping notes,
random chatter and anecdotes,
ringing so loud as cries denote,
a pleading for sound to cease,
but on and off those crickets sound,
determined to endure the night profound,
till sun does creep into shadows held,
and silence finds day, as night withholds the pain.

Oh so delightful Tony. All critters of the night do so wish cricket would stop. Wonderful phrasing in this great piece.
Much appreciated Phyllis, yes a bit of fun here, so glad you enjoyed it.
Wow does this bring back memories. Don’t think there are as many bugs out there as there use to be. Some nights I thought I would go crazy…maybe that was locusts? lol I do love the frog and cricket sounds.
Yes, childhood sounds and maybe there aren’t as many because they are not as noticeable. Anyway glad you enjoyed it Jackie. Cheers!
