Octobers style
October’s Style

We kicked laughingly through the fallen leaves
of others love’s at first try
And it was October when you told me
it was over although not why
At the dance that week I saw you
and him and learned of the sinking of hearts
Once again I would know how love fails a boy
and how October plays small parts
Though I still love October and my memory still feels
through that pretty blouse
I know that autumn comes to all loves
and Oh how love can leave a house
The other day I saw you and all these
years and years later
Oh how we have aged and aged
but what does it matter
We didn’t speak but in a smile
you held my gaze for a long long while
as in so many questions there is no answer
it isn’t October’s style

I like this poem, Ed. It is easy reading and flows nicely. ‘First loves’ seems to be a trend right now to write about and it is always sad and memorable. Well done, my friend.
Well, I’ ll be … just look at that Gravatar. Well done, Ed.
You’ve infused such a special feeling into October! Love the poem!
Nice work Ed, an emotive work of that early love that never leaves our memory, even in age. Well penned with the feel of October to set the stage for a heart warming remembrance. Great work.
Nice poem of first and enduring love, Ed. And just look at that photo..where have I seen that before?
