My Journey Unexplained

Shapes like diaphanous mist,
form and deform like consciousness aligning,
and light proliferates in woven intensity,
its humming groan an ominous seed;
and sight blurs as clarity wavers,
the light expands in colours vast,
as beams and shards all focussed invade,
my mind in such ways to warn.

The fear grows exponentially,
as the light intensifies even more,
but my body is numb and motionless,
at the mercy of experience and nothing more;
this heart is racing quickly,
the unknown a trigger to rising fear,
yet there is a calm instilled in me somewhere,
that soothes my questioning mind.

The voice starts as a whisper,
and I focus to understand the words,
but amid this floating numb uncontrolled flight,
all I think about is harm;
there is no face no being before me,
and the whisper feels closer than I’d like,
as if right there next to me,
the warm breath against my skin, my fright.

Then in clear resonant tone,
that voice utters its intent…
‘you’re closer than you’ve ever been,
hold on and don’t relent.’
The words cut right through me,
as if every letter a blade,
and I feel bilious quite suddenly,
this state too much of fate.

That humming now is pounding in my head,
like someone knocking at the door,
and the light so intense even with eyes closed,
the discomfort beyond what I can endure;
and so with all my strength I cry out loud
‘Let me go!’
and in my bed I find myself,
exhausted and confused, yet I know,
what reason for this experience did I sew?
