Jack-O-Lantern, A Carving for the Worthy Saints

Jack-O-Lantern

Carving a Jack-O-Lantern for the Worthy Saints

O ‘Stingy Jack’

O Lantern to create…

I fall into a plethora of color…

plump and plentiful

the sunset shapes of Autumn

strewn…

faceless gourds awaiting

their shining moment, ill-fated

doomed

by the eclectic will of swords.

Eager to dive, deep into the crown…

I drag my blade, ritualistic

zigzagging around

’til I feel the torn sound, of release…

stem’s pull of submission-

full of pulp and sticky seeds

my hands stained

slippery with pumpkin bleed…

The sweeter scent of Halloween

fills the air…

beyond the charade

beyond the chosen garb to wear…

while innards collect, everywhere.

And I thank nature, for the moment

the folly to create-

to carve the wider smile

grinning with a glowing face…

I burn a flickering ember

sheltered from the wind…

to ward off wandering spirits

lost in purgatory’s sin…

I light the path for children’s grace-

for they alone, are the worthy

saints.

I have always enjoyed writing as a creative and healing outlet. Although I am not a formally trained poet, I have found a natural inclination to explore its remarkable power and beauty. I gravitate towards rhyming verse, free of any constraints, and strive to create an experience through sound, flow, and imagery. I am a writer at Allpoetry.com. and a proud Mother of two beautiful boys. Thank you for visiting.
