The Colors of Autumn

Golden days of autumn …

Take my hand,

let’s walk through the autumn,

look at the leaves –

that gather at our feet.

Take my hand,

let’s walk through autumn

and enjoy the sunny days,

days that are still mild and warm,

before the bitter winter comes.

Take my hand,

let’s take a look at the fallen leaves,

floating upon the river,

the bare branches of the tree,

like bony fingers,

reflected against the blue sky.

Slowly so slowly,

nature is going to sleep,

soon we will only see –

a frozen landscape.

There is still so much beauty,

that we can gaze upon,

spend some time dreaming,

as we walk –

through the autumn.

So that in winter white days,

we can look back

and remember –

the wonderful colors of autumn.

After the golden sunshine,

has left the sky,

when the gray,

dreary days have come,

we can still dream,

of the colorful leaves –

that went swirling about.

Then to keep warm,

as the cold north wind blew,

we would hold on tight

and dance along with that wind.

Just you and i,

in a madcap dance,

as orange, yellow, red and brown,

went swirling past.

Like two children at play,

then in a pile of leaves,

we would lay,

oh, what memories they bring,

these golden days of autumn,

leading us along the path,

that will before we know it,

take us into silver wintertime.
