Blustered Day in Nature’s Play

The winds bluster
while morning seeks serenity,
and the turbulence squanders
all hope of peace,
yet in its release there is a cleansing,
a change, a perspective shift,
as if life in affront
feels a deep-seated rift,
and while windows rattle
and bows flail like frantic arms in leaf,
we truly know
of nature’s fractious mood.
Birds cringe in hollows calm,
away from streams too brash to control,
and like balls they sit motionless,
ruffled plumes and eyes a closed,
and every life just bends to accommodate,
so not to snap in nature’s wake,
and I sit forlorn,
sunless day and racing clouds from dawn,
trample my every hope for sun,
and somber moods respond to her whim,
her changeable fates
when days chilled and bones to ache.
Those dark and brooding clouds above,
race in frenzied plight,
in every shade of grey,
dappled balls of cotton frayed,
to who knows destination,
from here and out of sight
they seek horizon’s bold,
perhaps in search of halcyon moments,
to bid this day resolve,
and I look to that broken sky,
pleading sun to somehow arrive,
but know too well this grip is firmly taken.
And so my mind relents,
to inside thoughts and warm regrets,
of days gone sour and new horizons wait,
in nature’s bag of tricks our fate,
and appreciate I must,
her will and guile in serving us
a myriad of colored schemes,
the stuff of all our dreams.

Mother Nature sure has a strong influence on our moods. Very vivid description of a gloomy day. Well done Tony.
Thanks Phyllis, today here is one such day and I’m just writing the time away. Cheers!
