Should Eyes Decide It So

A sigh relents the burden born
of ignorant stance and ego held in desperation,
a last stand of prideful hope
that the world is wrong and we alone can cope,
yet underpinning these facile thoughts,
is the knowing that every word and idea
is but fashioned to combat the fear
that we are truly alone,
and the only purchase we have
is with our own hands,
by our own movement.
Fear is but the magnitude of life, felt,
the process of movement,
of falling and harsh reproach,
the very lessons of a soul in growth
that is our burden to bear,
our most profound moments,
as we traverse this great journey,
scared of ourselves and what may pursue us,
yet in truth the making of us,
defining who we are and can be,
as we accept the journey,
not flinch and pretend it gone,
but to hold the potential
and decide to embrace it.
The world is filled with beauty,
should eyes decide it so,
and we may fear and hold life in contempt
for all we think it burdens us,
yet our souls are a seemingly endless vessel,
filled with moments, pain, joy and enlightenment,
and those stuck to the sides, most accessible,
are up to our perceptions, our wants,
and we decide what defines us,
in beauty, love and compassion
or the pain of the lessons
that ultimately bring us home.

Great work, Tony. When I read these type verses from you it lifts my spirit, for I then know there is still hope for this world “should we decide it so”. Very nicely penned.
Thank you Phyllis, so glad you enjoy my thoughts. Cheers!
