Secrets of the Inner Self
Listen to the Inner Voice
Secrets bind us to ourselves,
our conscious ego, our persona,
willing in sacrifice to lie and cheat ourselves
into believing that non-disclosure is right,
is a protection from a plight
too unimaginable to bare.
Yet those very same secrets
are the walls behind which we hide from the world,
from reality, from the fears and doubts
that plague our nights,
the thoughts that we will not be liked
or understood.
These secrets are not held from life,
they are held from ourselves,
the sagacious inner voice, that entreats our honesty,
yet we, in stubborn, habitual stance
relent that voice,
holding tightly to our sentient me, our ego.
How we deceive ourselves,
lock away secrets of seemingly unrelenting thought,
where we store all those mistakes and guilt,
that could crumble the foundations of belief
about who we really are,
our faults and limits in black and white.
Frauds we may feel,
as years go by and secrets held
do compromise our lives,
yet we still will not listen to that inner voice,
that choice of transparency,
when we could heal ourselves and become one with truth.
