My Snail Trail

My Snail Trail
My Snail Trail…a miracle of light

Silvery light upon the earth,
glimmering in sun’s morning shards,
so delicate, this diaphanous veil,
like crisp shimmering moonlight,
captured and by day, drawn,
an eloquent snail trail.

Nowhere to be seen
the master of this beauty,
tucked safely in shadows,
his nocturnal art remaining,
a path winding,
like a map of life’s travail.

So simple,
this meandering night adventure,
yet in its wake, a miracle,
a cellophane glittering capture of light,
so beguiling, so fine,
it is all I can do not to try to hold it
in my hand.

This eloquent snail trail,
my fascination, my wonder,
as if a cloud’s silver lining fallen
upon the earth,
and as I touch it just dissipates,
as if a dust, a pure light,
a magic secret must.
