A Life Felt Invincible
Not Invincible…

Reigns pulled yet no relent,
speed set, impact immanent,
and eyes wide in anticipation,
decisions made, no placation;
end approaching, time all blurred,
frantic rush, thoughts absurd,
while death seems panicked, life implores,
end so soon, cannot ignore;
in slow motion the collision ensues,
flailing limbs and mind exudes,
the calming grace of ultimate fate,
not maligned just a soul to sate,
and accept a foregone conclusion.
Spirit free, no pain at all,
witness to the massacre,
stillness ominous, blood and gore,
lifeless vessels splattered so;
and shocked bystanders scream in abhorrence,
ambulance lights attest the accident,
bodies covered, stretchers bare,
bone and flesh an empty stare;
and police take notes from witness shaking,
quivery voice and soul just aching,
knowing how very mortal we are,
vulnerable flesh in speeding cars,
the end of life so final.
All for the speed
of a life felt invincible.
