A Last Bite…winter’s calling card

A Last Bite
A Last Bite…winter’s calling card

The Last Bite is a Doozy!

A last bite, a reluctant goodbye,
as winter leaves its calling card
upon this cool spring day,
and chilled my bones,
as my eyes aspired light,
to be blinded by a grey and chilling day,
a remnant of the night.

Just as sun prevailed,
building to a blessed crescendo,
it now hides in despair,
ice and dismal gloom upon my window,
as I nestle close to firelight,
my aching yearning warmth,
just beyond my sight.

The day is a disaster,
a halcyon day gone wrong,
driven to the depths of shame,
a light-less, mono-toned excuse for song,
and unwittingly I am miserable,
depressed as I can be,
winter sun a ruthless ruse,
a spring sun now all wrong.

That last bite is a killer,
when unsuspecting I,
a T-shirt walk to imbibe the morn,
near frozen, I thought I’d die,
and so I relent the day complete,
pretending its an eight day week,
to sleep as if it never was,
and to wake with sun in springs applause.

Winter sure wants to be remembered with a performance to blast us into cold again – a chilling final performance. Let’s hope that is the last of it, till next winter anyway. Our day here was so cold, dark and dismal with very cold large raindrops stinging the face. Well penned weather report, Tony.

See…I just want a taste of that bite here. Still, you penned so well the gloom, and that I can not use. Just miss the pull of a blanket, and the wrap of a sweater. A chilly piece, your opposition, again a nice escape from a summer that never ends.

    Best,
    Mel

Thanks Mel, our opposites amuse me, as we experience such contrast. Glad you appreciated my weather report. Take care.
