The Political Mayhem of Truths Forsaken
Political Mayhem…

It’s 1:00 AM, my eyes are full…
political mayhem, truths forsaken.
It’s time for meaningful reform.
A spectrum of choice-
where the value of humanity shrieks…
louder than the selfish bicker
resounding between Red and Blue.
These blood soaked blogs…
twisted tweets, and articles swaying
to fingertip’s gratification
vibrations
buzzing with confounding theories
leaky conspiracies
the wounded ooze of source…
Insects are drawn to a rotten core.
Hello…
Can you hear me? No, I suppose not.
I’m over here
trapped in a crowded corner, watching
the fruits of our labor
diminishing beneath the hungry mandibles…
insatiable for more.
The sticky web of adaptation…
where have our feelers gone?
To the honey-eyed spectacle
peering from our bigger screens
warm with familiarity
cool with musical choreography…
the whiter teeth
dripping with words of assurity,
or spitting with the venom of fear.
O’ to pacify the doubt of our inner voices-
screaming
nothing seems clear!
What’s your pleasure, what’s your pain
what’s in it for you
what’s in it for me
to gain?
It’s easy to appease
the numb of complacency…
massage the vote of our vulnerabilities
Lest we peel away the margins
the colors and sounds…
take away the slogans, the hidden arms
so eager to surround…
take away the money, the tailored suits
and the pristine gowns…
‘reality’ stripped down
left to shudder with the rest of us.
Will we continue to watch
from the glowing lamps of our biased
screens…
get pushed into perpetual corners
where choice can barely speak,
or will we find the soles of our own feet
hold our leaders to their cause-
find the courage of voice…
to expect only truth and fairness-
equality for all?
This election is a racket
from every angle, calling every name…
the tone of our nation, bows its head
in unimaginable shame.
Until we are willing to get involved…
take responsibility
for looking away, or blindly following
the echo of bitterness and blame…
everything will dwindle and wane.
We are all howling for the lost dream
to be reborn…
the strength of selfless hands
to guide us forward…
into the greener pastures, warm
with the intentions of a promising land.
It’s time we take a stand
against this debilitating bureaucracy
that feeds…
the immorality of endless greed…
It’s time we take a stand-
against this political mayhem.

Very well stated on the political fiascos being slammed into our faces every day. Great verse, Mel, I enjoyed it.
Thank you for tolerating my rant Phyllis, it’s all so awful…I just had to speak. Appreciate your commenting. Take care.
Best,

Beautifully and poignantly said Mel, as to the shameful circumstances of US politics. What once was great is now appalling; greed and corporate piracy the core of the bloodletting of a nation. And what hope is there between the leaders proffered? A sad state of affairs. Some wonderful phrasing and gifted verse to express your intent. Great work Mel.
Thank you Tony, it is apalling…appreciate your comment very much.

A wonderful rant, Mel. It is a sad state that this election seems to be dividing your nation to such an extent…I read venom being sprouted almost every day from one side or the other. What a terrible choice you are faced with…having to, it seems, vote for the lesser of two evils. We need to put an end to the political system that rewards greed and warmongering.

It is sad John, I just don’t think that voting party line is the answer here. To feel pressured to do so, does not seem a form of freedom. There is so much at stake, and obviously, not just for the United States. It’s an extremely difficult position to be in, for everyone. Thanks for reading and commenting, I appreciate it.
Well Mel, I tink you covered all the bases. Hope seems so far away, yet it still exists. Thanks for this one.
Thank you William, my apologies for the delayed reply…appreciate your comment very much. Hope is certainly what carries us. 🙂 Take care.

Sometimes I think our great nation has given up its history. We some how have forgotten what got us here in the first place. I blame technology, the instant news created by the web, smart phones, sound bites is all most rely on anymore, it has created a nation of sheep. We as a whole now don’t look beyond what someone took a full second to post on the internet to actually think it is true or not. We have lost our prospective and it is scary. I wonder how we got to a point where two people running for President that the average American does not seem to want. I am baffled. Loved your piece, it voices what most think…..
Yes Kurt, you couldn’t have said it better…
‘A nation of sheep’. I blame technology too, it is scary. I fear, as we move forward with these extraordinary advancements, we are ultimately destroying ourselves. My intention for this piece was to simply stop, and think for yourself, do your own homework and form your own opinion. Know your sources, know your heart and stay true to the freedom of your own beliefs. This election should be a wake up call for everyone.
Thank you for your thoughtful comment, and enduring my thoughts. 🙂
Best,
Mel
