Illustrious Defeat…a prideful refusal

Defeat…dare me if you will!

Illustrious Defeat
Illustrious defeat…a prideful refusal

Standing firm I gaze above,
for heaven’s nod I wait,
and know not my reason, the pledge of minds
is indeed resigned to truth,
and yet here I stand,
ignoble those who cross my resolve,
whose heaven nods them twice as well as mine,
and doubt I cannot let abide,
for what sacrifice I’d make,
a fool attested of half-baked lies.

So dare me if you will,
for I shall sink rather than give in,
and it will be your quote of sin
that brings me down,
but I shall never concede
what you yourself believe,
for it is oblique and not attuned to mine,
regardless of your rhyme,
your gentle ponderous resilience,
that weighs my mind’s burden wholly.

Then, if I fall,
wrongness marked and determined,
I shall in silence withdraw to lick my wounds,
not stay and spurn your righteous smile,
all of which I’d like in style,
but alas would not give you the pleasure;
and so strike your best shot,
this pride is like iron bar,
and let yourself find my measure,
in your illustrious defeat.

I am sensing a theme in you tonight, standing firm in place…pride…the games people play, to win, no matter what. Love the line, ‘ It will be your quote of sin that brings me down’ A resounding write. Well done.

    Best,
    Mel

Lol. You can always know what mood I’m in from what I write each day. Nothing held back, all out there. Memories evoke words and words turn into poetry. Glad you appreciated it Mel. Take care.
