Finding Beauty…a Perception of Choice
Beauty…a perception of life

Finding beauty in the burden of sentience
is not easy, not always apparent,
considering what keeps us up at night,
what taunts our dreams
and what cuts flesh to bleed us out.
Yet beauty pervades life with
hair-like veins, tiny endless tributaries
underpinning existence with irrefutable wonder,
an awe-striking reminder of life’s possibility,
and the ability we have in perceiving it.
We may see life for it cruel,
seemingly pointed affront,
as we alone are the brunt of malice,
a foray of vindictive affliction,
at least that is what we think, until we see the beauty.
Selfless eyes see reality clean,
untainted by our discomfort and bias,
our objections to all that crosses our wants,
yet one view of beauty’s endowment,
may change our perspective all together.
Life is how we perceive it,
our expectations and attitudes creating the waves we ride,
the wipe-outs and joy we may experience,
when we see life unencumbered
by our meddling sentient minds.
Keeping beauty at the forefront of consciousness,
balances the self, keeps it flaccid,
not filled with anger and ready to respond,
so we may see beauty in everything,
even our mistakes, for where it leads us.

I am thinking of a Walt Whitman quote : “That you are here—that life exists, and identity;
That the powerful play goes on, and you will contribute a verse.”
― Walt Whitman, Leaves of Grass
That you are here, Tony, to give us words of beauty in verse is a beauty I so enjoy.
I’m glad Phyllis and yes we all contribute a verse here and there. Love Walt, we own him much in the world of poetry. Great quote. Thanks Phyllis.
