Contemporary Adaptation

Contemporary…the loss of compassion

Contemporary Adaptation
Contemporary Adaptation…learning hatred

Contemporary, the lost thoughts of compassion,
dulled in part from hatred’s knell,
the long resounding battering of sensibilities,
from the incessant fears bound to daily life,
like tethers of insistent strife
that we think life imparts.

So overwhelmed by paranoia,
we strike out in believe of persecution,
when truth is we propagate the confusion
by targeting a scapegoat, the fears quarry;
not to quash the fear, but to maintain it,
leaving compassion and understanding alone.

Thus compassion fades
and hatred finds leadership, direction,
when all along love is a frail ideal
tucked deeply within our memories,
and held a bay by the group mind of disdain,
all that life does not explain.

Puerile this contemporary adaptation,
to all the fear that war derives,
blame our weapon our satisfaction,
and we inept to even understand our puppet knives,
stabbing in the dark;
and so it grows, a malignant lie,
until it grows enough or we in weakened state do die.

    Compassion and love seems to have faded a bit with what is important in this world, yet it is what will help us survive. The childish, insane actions of leaders have pulled down what love and compassion built in the past. Rapidly changing for the worst is our world. I still have hope that love and compassion will win. Great work, Tony.

    Much appreciated Phyllis, yes, everything seems to be at crisis point and the unknown is worrying. Glad you enjoyed the thoughts.
