A Hateful Compliance
Compliance… for good or self?

Compliance is a knee-jerk response,
an ingrained application
of societal prohibition and structure,
yet to what extend do I relent my own values,
to uphold some board of directors edict?
What is right for all,
is someone else’s perspective,
perhaps not mine; yet if I do not comply,
what awaits a mind of resistance,
to uphold the self, the nature of who we are?
Where do the roads cross,
and in what area do I become adverse to society,
my non-compliance the very root of evil,
the peripheral lambent of insurrection,
to be weeded out and snuffed from sight.
Should I not adhere to the greed and malice,
the judgement and vilification
of religions and peoples,
would I be the enemy, the pariah,
the zealot of non-profitable evil philosophy?
If I shall relent and join the masses,
in a global hatred and dissidence,
will I then claim favour within society,
praised for all my credit cards and consumerism,
my disdain and judgement like a pass key,
just to be like everyone else?
A hateful compliance is not my choice,
and it shall not rule my life,
nor by the abject failures of society,
whether it compromises me or not,
for it is not my belief
and the game will not be played.

You are a free spirit, Tony. You live life your way. Very good poem with good things to ponder.
Glad you enjoyed Phyllis, we all have to live on our terms otherwise we are just puppets for the waves of power surging.
Hi Tony , much to think about here ! Compliance or Anarchy , are those the only two choices ? I came of age in the sixties and watched that transition , politically , personally and culturally , I came to realize much later that the changes we were being indoctrinated to then as teens was very much an agenda , all by design was this new generation , this free -will , free range way of thinking .
As I have aged I now watch a a new romanticism for those times has reawakened in our millennials . We’ll have to await that outcome and see if it is worth the trip .
But great write , and lets promise to stay free enough to at least think for ourselves …..:-}
Yes Ed, no-one can take that away, but there are agendas and it will be interesting what evolves in time. The world is in crisis and a turning point seems immanent so maybe change and transformation will see our twilight years wondering what happened. Cheers!
