Worthwhile Life
Worthwhile life …

Tis a lowly thought,
to let rage form a hatred,
to let hurt smother compassion,
or let malevolence quash understanding,
yet we all suffer the consequences
of our actions,
from thwart endeavours or wants.
Minds do waver
between darkness and light,
so adaptable to be as dangerous as kind,
in this our husk of human flesh,
caught between heaven and hell, attesting
we have tickets to both,
and use them, often.
Potential is the word
that much describes our fate,
yet is it too late, our very fate,
to wallow between, exploring both love and hate,
until we become our innate nature,
our propensities set,
at birth or before.
We are chameleons,
manipulators and frauds,
like children discovering scope,
and bending rules till there’s none left of hope,
to exact our selfish wants,
so I just hope we can find love and compassion
before the end, for our souls to extend
to a worthwhile life.

Much food for thought, Tony. We have all been given the free will to choose between right and wrong, good and bad etc. In short, we have the choice to live a worthwhile life and get to determine our own fate. Good work.
Glad you appreciated the thoughts. Cheers!
We are definitely a product of our choices. Our present is a result of past choices and we form our future from our present choices. Nicely done, Tony!
Thanks Bill, glad you enjoyed the work. Cheers!
As humans we are exposed to the consequences of choice. Love and compassion can set us free. I pray the love and compassion I have for one will enable my soul to “extend
to a worthwhile life”, to allow me to give all the love and embrace that life. Now see, your poem has sent me to a place of beautiful dreams, Tony, away from the “manipulators and frauds”, away from all the hate and destruction in the world. I choose love.
Me too Phyllis, that’s why this recurring theme features in so much of my work. I just don’t understand the choices some people make in life. All we can do is follow our path and hope the world heals.
