Within and Without

Elevated to unknown heights,
by innate propensities so out of sight,
it took years of introspection and in doing right,
to know who I was already.
For we are what we are, within,
and discovering exactly that is no easy task,
to realise the delusions and all those masks,
is a revelation of understanding.
The irony remains of mind,
that the core of us we wish to find,
has been there the entire time,
and the journey just a catalyst of resolution.
So seek not those depths of truth within,
for they are but reflections of our apparent skin,
and seeing both will part good from sin,
when we accept ourselves regardless.
Within the balance of scales,
we are all good and bad with potentials,
and we choose the depth of light and dark to prevail,
to assert our wants and experience in life.
No secret, no epiphanies need be,
just acceptance of what we see,
our choices carve our paths to be free,
when we are honest with ourselves.
Honesty is then the key, who we are and can be,
and all that we are has always been present,
to love what we are given, in its entirety,
which then manifests in our world,
from within us to without.

What a great opening line – “it took years of introspection and in doing right, to know who I was already.” Isn’t that the way it goes so often. I always know I’ll find great stuff on your page, and this is no exception. Thanks, Tony.
Much appreciated Bill, glad you enjoyed it my friend. Cheers!
This makes so much sense, Tony. It found a place in me and settled in comfort. We spend years in search if self to find the answer has always been there, present within. Well done.
Thanks Phyllis, yes it is an ironic truth. Glad you related. Cheers!
Best Introspective poetry ever I have read. Thanks.
