Two Sides

Tempted, drawn to consider,
a life less lived, an opposite life of sin,
just to see how the pages turn,
if Karma bites or the soul discerns,
and to understand a world without guilt,
a conscience guide or that inner voice
that harps, prescribes,
a better way to be.
But as much as I want to know,
this soul demands not ebb but flow,
and the bad boy I cannot be,
crime and lust and pleasured flesh
an unnatural panacea,
and so I’ll dream of capricious acts,
grit and salacious impact
that will never come my way.
We are what we are, I’m concluding,
each reach for darkness an affront to light,
and what comes as a consequence,
just harsh reproach for the straying,
and a focus on the path fated;
so my dreams of Harley’s and tatts
drunken brawls and dark thoughts are just that,
dreams.
I am a poet, a less contentious soul,
dislike competition, hatred and avarice,
crowds, loud noise, drunkenness and violence,
rather beauty fills my mind,
compassion and love my paradigm,
and for what its worth, disappointment marks my life,
for the lack of understanding and selfish plights
of so many I have known.
Yet, I will stand for humanity,
with all its foibles, for potential marks our rise,
and perhaps with words of hope,
we can usher change in human life,
and find a true path without compromise,
and eventually see who we are,
above the primordial nature innate,
and find love and happiness
in this our earthly fate.

This poem has a wonderful message, Tony, and I think I am a kindred soul and can particularly relate to the last two stanzas.
Glad you enjoyed the thoughts John. Cheers!
This wonderful sharing of your soul, all stanzas resonate with me. I’ve been divided and pulled through life between sin and forgiveness. I’ve walked a fine line, fell off a few times, gotten back up and dusted myself off and set myself back on the road of life’s long journey. Your last stanza being the light of hope and steadfastness being in sync with humanity is my quest. Well done my poetic friend. You never fail to deliver.
Much appreciated Vincent, I believe we are indeed kindred spirits and have experienced much of the same path, and so we relate to all the thoughts and renderings of our poetic minds. Take care my friend.
A ‘bad boy’ you are not, Tony. Thank goodness you are who you are. 🙂 Great work.
It’s just a fantasy Phyllis. Glad you appreciated the thoughts. Cheers!
