Silently in the Night
Silently the night settles in
and the world becomes still.
Without fanfare, on soft cat-like paws,
the night arrived
and drew a curtain upon the day.
Inky black darkness all about
and my weary mind could begin to think.
In the silence my thoughts fly,
on raven wings –
to all the yesteryears gone by.
To the present as stars in the sky,
like tiny lights begin to flicker on.
Soon I know that old moon,
will ascend above the treetops.
As I sit and ponder,
my inspiration ready to spring forth,
I look outside the window
and see my own reflection.
So I wander on closer
and look into the garden.
Pushing the window wide open,
the scented night breezes,
come flying in.
Moonbeams are playing,
with shadows cast by the trees.
Night clouds like dark, mysterious, ships,
go sailing by,
playing hide and seek,
with the moon up high.
Wondering what lies out there,
in the night, in the darkness.
Perhaps spirits from another world,
are dancing in the moonlight.
Owls hooting in tall pine trees,
in shadowy forests –
where gurgling creeks,
go rushing over rocks,
along their way.
Perhaps tiny fairies,
like lightning bugs,
are flitting from flower to flower.
My imagination is set to dancing,
unlike in the light of day.
I like the mystery of the night –
that makes me ponder and think.
Makes me wonder what tomorrow will bring
and poetic words begin to spill out –
like shooting stars flying across the night sky.
I never stop to wonder why,
as so many emotions and feelings –
begin spilling across the page.
No poetic work is ever done,
till the rising of the morning sun.

Thank you John.
Beautifully descriptive Rasma and filled with wonderful imagery expressing the beauty of night and life’s secrets and the depth of wonder we have for our being. Great work.
Thank you Tony.
I have to agree with the others, Rasma. So very descriptively beautiful. Thank you.
You welcome William.
The beauty and mystery of night is a call of Nature, for us to open our minds and wander through imagination. Such a lovely glimpse of all that beauty you give us, Rasma. Well done, dear poet.
Thank you Phyllis. The night often inspires.
