Deliver My heart

Deliver My Heart

Deliver My Heart…to halcyon days.

Winter rains, like deep mists,
arisen atop the mountain crags
to fall in surging white chaos,
to streams and falls, searching
lower ground and stillness ends.

And sun reticent,
cowering behind the grey,
its pallid face lost in the bleak grasp of chill,
emits a dim glow
where real light should have been.

And green pervades life,
growth fed on chilled tears,
grasses glistening, where dotted blooms
rise to reach what warmth there is,
in sky so weak of blue.

And birds rescind the day,
feathered balls and buried beaks in shadowed nooks,
trying to appease the cold,
and dreaming of halcyon days,
where sun bathed their plumes.

The cat cares not for day unfolding,
more for my beds crumpled nest,
and he snores a whistling refrain,
a limbless fluffy ball of quivering breath.

And day says little, no winds to speak,
just the icy chill of winter’s other cheek,
and I in layered cloth and mould,
seek out words to stem the cold,
and deliver my heart elsewhere.

Such a beautiful and descriptive interpretation of your cold winter, Tony. I love the phrasing. It is so hot here where I am that I would gladly send you some warmth in exchange for just a little touch of cool air. Very nice verse and I love that photo.

Yes, Tony I often dream of halcyon days, though I enjoy the cooler weather. Sometimes I wish I had the life (or nine) of a cat though. Great poetry here.
