Yellow Soldiers
Yellow Soldiers

Yellow soldiers salute the sky,
tall and yearning warmth of sun,
standing on a sea of green,
glimmered dew drops glisten, one by one;
and a winding path down to ponds
rimmed with winter blooms and fronds,
mark the bliss of steps once taken,
on indolent summer days, unshaken.
Yet in the chill of morn with icy plumes,
atop each bow and leaf, assumes
that beauty’s crest is now at rest,
memories of that warmth at best, do entreat;
yet these soldiers, so straight and bright,
stand amid the early light,
poised to draw what sun they can
from pale winter’s mood.
As if to point the way to water’s edge,
soldiers wave and inspire, beg,
the wanderer to imbibe those morning sky reflections,
in rippled oranges and patchwork blues,
each glistening light in gem like hues,
as mists in white refrain, do rise and meet the sky,
to filter what the blue can’t hide of skin,
in winter’s beauty imbuing day’s begin.

A lovely poem, displaying an excellent use of words, Tony. Poems about nature, gardens etc touch a chord with me. Love those yellow soldiers.
Thanks John, yes nature is wonderful inspiration for poetry. So glad you enjoyed it. Cheers!
