Wake for Humanity
Humanity
look what we have become…
lost in our screens
devoid
of life’s gentler dreams.
“Active shooters”
“Fluid scenes”
Is this to be the norm…
as we bicker and aim?
It makes no difference
how we categorize…
and name.
Hate breeds hate.
Death begets death…
here
or there.
It all comes
from the same vengeful place…
vacant caverns
hollowed
by the misguided echoes
of a perpetual divide.
We push
our shallow pins…
avert
our dismissive eyes
from what we have failed
to understand.
Desperate
for some kind of everlasting
fill…
“For God”
“For Country”
“For Justice”
Or is it…
For self?
How much blood is enough
to spill?
These scenes will remain…
forever fluid
one into the next…
until we are willing
to see
beyond the uselessness
of blame.
We have all looked away.
When will we begin
to look within…
to change
for the name of “Humanity”?
Seems there is much
at stake…
as we attend yet another
wake.

A very poignant write Mel, and it seems we are running out of hope. The world is a perilous place, so much pointless death and destruction, for beliefs, differences? beautifully stated and questioning our times. great work.
Thank you Tony, when I woke up I heard sirens, which isn’t unusual where I live, but for some reason I knew something was really wrong…got up, and saw the news in Orlando. So sad. I actually wrote this after San Bernadino, but I wanted to bring it out again. Thanks for the comment.
Best,
Mel
Hi Mel,
“Humanity look what we have becomeโฆ” How sad. We who once had it all squandered it all, and for what? We need to get back to the beginning and start again.
It is sad William, thank you for reading and commenting. I appreciate it.

Mel
Most poignant look at humanity. Nicely penned leaves much to ponder.
Thank you Rasma, I appreciate your taking the time to read and comment. ๐

Hi Mel,
Isn’t it ironical that amidst all this chaos we continue to live and breathe? Even the air around us doesnt breathe of freshness anymore. Just reminds me of the famous song by Bob Dylan – When you gonna wake up?
Thanks for the wake up alarm.
Hello Rasma, yes, but let us hold out for hope, that we will all begin to rise up and care for each other again, as well as our planet. ๐ I am still new here, but I send you a sincere welcome.
Thank you kindly for your comment, love Bob Dylan ๐
Best,
Mel
Thanks for your sincere welcome Mel. I guess by mistake you mentioned me as Rasma above. Hi……….I am Tarun from Incredible India. I welcome you too and look forward to reading more of you.
Tarun! My apologies…please forgive me. Thank you, and likewise. ๐
Mel, There is no room for forgiveness. You have committed a heinous crime ๐
Better is to read my poems and please advice what you think of them. That’s the only way you can repay my debt ๐
Ha! Ok Tarun, a reasonable request~look forward to it. ๐
All the violence and hate is so destructive to humanity. Your verse is a strong message to all of humanity and I wish we could get it out there for all to read. Very well penned, Melissa.
Thank you Phyllis, yes, it’s difficult to witness so much anger and dissatisfaction, in such a beautiful world. I wish we could all just be more accepting of each other, and work towards a common good.
Thank you for your comment. ๐
Best,
Mel
Great musing Mel. I very much agree, why is it peace is not the most popular when that makes so much more sense!
Thank you Jackie, I wish I knew the answer, but it’s so nice to know that others agree, perhaps more will follow along as they begin to recognize the devastation. Much appreciate the read and comment. ๐
Best,
Mel
In love and wonder of all living things. Thank you. Jamie
