Uncertainty

uncertainty
Uncertainty….and the fear of change.

Troubled by uncertainty,
life sits upon the edge of the unknown,
we, never sated, never secure in its unfolding,
as unfamiliar circumstances haunt our souls
with ever-present possibility.

Ambivalence becomes the delusion
of a much needed security,
yet there is none, for life’s steps
are taken before we even consider,
and no matter our vigilant stance,
we become dumbfounded in fateful outcomes.

There is no remedy, no placating the unexpected,
for if there were, our control would be complete,
and life would offer little beyond expectation,
but we are far from that, and life continues
to astonish us, leave us breathless.

Change is an unnerving principle,
taking us from the comfort of knowing
to the discomfort of second guessing,
and it’s presentation is much resisted out of fear,
relying on delusion to console us.

Uncertainty should be the extremes of possibility,
laid out to consider and in acceptance, understand,
never to resist but choose a viable path
as change delivers us to new horizons,
and the excitement of the new,
the un-trodden steps of being.
