Swallow the World

It was never my intention to swallow the world whole,
more a nibble at a time to imbibe what I’d been sold,
yet my rapacious propensity glimmered a path,
and I willingly took it, life, ingestion and aftermath.
So much to accept, so little time,
my mind in frenzy to suck up the sublime,
in every thought and action, every nuance of discovery,
I grabbed life by the neck and shook to intensity.
All that remained was dried remnants of past,
having swallow with gusto all that life asked,
and swell my flesh did at the capacity I derived,
no stone unturned, the feast I’d abide.
The more that confronted, the more I’d consume,
until by belly was aching, my mind insecure,
life propped up the pins and I’d knock them down,
absorb all the learning until I almost drowned.
As one would expect indigestion I’d found,
from taking on life as if it were one hundred percent sound,
and with every bubble and grumble of pain I’d endure,
I’d evacuate the remains of what I thought was so pure.
In the end I discovered that life is of choice,
what we imbibe can transform or destroy our soul voice,
we are what we eat, we are what we choose,
insatiable is fine, but too much of anything is a war we can lose.

Wow, Tony, this was very creative. I love the concept of swallowing the world and suffering indigestion. Loved it.
I bit different John, but glad you enjoyed it. Cheers!
Just wonderful. Loved the rhythm and rhyme here. The world today is quite a bitter pill to swallow. Love your choice of photo Tony.
Thanks Rasma, yes that pig was perfect. Pleased you enjoyed the work. Take care.
That pig sure looks like he could swallow the world, and indeed we are what we choose to be or become. Choices are important, they either build up or drag down. Well stated Tony, I loved your visuals and symbolism using this pig. I hope he didn’t get indigestion.
By the looks that pig is in a constant state of indigestion. lol Thanks Vincent, glad you related. Cheers!
I love this, Tony! Sometimes I wonder if swallowing the world whole is what gives us much needed growth, even if it does cause indigestion. Wonderful choice of words, rhyme and photo.
Thanks Phyllis, glad you appreciated the thoughts. The photo was definitely a find. Take care.
