Goin’ Down Louisiana Way
Louisiana Way
Would love to go down Louisiana way,
way down south to New Orleans.
So I could take a streetcar named Desire
and see the colorful side of life.
To hear those sweet jazz sounds floating in the air,
walking along the cobblestones,
smelling the delights of the restaurants,
in the old French Quarter.
To have my fill of jambalaya and gumbo
and a slice or two of craw fish pie.
Would love to go down into the bayou –
where nature is one with the creatures in the swamp.
Just floating along under romantic Spanish moss,
hanging down like intricate pieces of lace,
where fireflies like little lanterns flit about,
in the hot and sultry southern night.
To experience some vodoo magic,
although you have to be aware –
of the good and bad.
Perhaps somewhere out there –
voodoo queen Madame Laveau still roams,
reciting spells in the night.
To get a feel of the history in the air,
New Orleans swing me away –
to a time when every corner held a jazz player
and my feet could do a shuffle on the cobblestones.
Perhaps I’ll hear –
sweet Louis singing jazz songs in my ears.

Nicely done, Rasma. I’ve never been to New Orleans – or maybe I have. Your verse took me there. Thanks for the trip!
You welcome William.
A great description of what New Orleans must be like, Rasma. You captured the atmosphere, tastes and sounds in this piece. Well done.
Thank you John.
Very well done Rasma, this had a delightful flow of rhythm and frolic like a song that moves us along in imagination! I think this is very much one of your better writings! Love it.
Thank you Jackie.
Beautifully descriptive Rasma and evocative; I want to go too. It sounds wonderful and a unique and special place for sure. A very smooth and beguiling verse to inspire images and thoughts of heartwarming experience. Lovely work.
Thank you Tony.
I’ve traversed Baton Rouge and trucked on down to New Orleans, must say, I experienced some of what you’ve penned. Enjoyed Bourbon music, toe tapping and jaw breaking sounds of brass and fiddles. Savoured the many delicious delights of crawfish, catfish, gator and jambalaya too. You brought back some pleasant memories with your electric colorful verse dear poet. Nicely penned.
Thank you Vincent. Glad it brought back nice memories.
A delightful journey through Louisiana, Rasma. Thank you for sharing these beautifully expressed thoughts.
You welcome Phyllis.
This brought me back to the 70’s when I went to the Mardi Gras in New Orleans and danced the night away. Loved it!
That sounds like a lot of fun Ruby. I have always wanted to go to the Mardi Gras in New Orleans. Perhaps someday.
