Should We Learn…

Should We Learn

In the wake of pain,
ingrained in flesh so completely,
the mind absolves the illusions,
the paths so blemished by failed dreams,
and the lingering sour notes of regret,
that allude to lost aspirations.

Like a vortex within,
a spiraling surging of sin,
that haunts an astute mind to wonder,
just how lost a soul can become,
and within its own tribulations run,
but never hide from what’s real.

As dust settles and memory fades,
we the perpetrators of our paths trodden,
know too well the truth of our scope,
the lies we’ve told, the love we relented
and the prideful dismissal of potential held,
and so we alone bare the burden.

In the wake of pain, foresight is offered,
the learning of pain’s tenuous circumstance,
the making or breaking of us,
and in its wake we forge beginnings
that can be brighter of light
easier in sight, to allay our future fears.

Thanks Phyllis, yes pain is our greatest teacher, for sure. The moment we see it as learning, the moment it lessens in life. Take care.
