The Dragonfly
Dragonfly
Diaphanous wings, like prism facets
refract light in vivid rainbow arcs,
and as you hover to ponder a bloom,
my eyes avert and you are gone.
So delicate your form, sleek, slender,
and your glassy wings so fast, a blur,
and as I follow your course,
darting with such fluid speed, life without remorse.
How light dances upon you,
through your gossamer flight,
and your life so committed in purpose
as you seek the worlds jewels in nectar’s light.
For a moment you hover before me,
as if to question my mind,
calmly perusing my form and intent,
to then resume your life sublime.
Such wonder I feel for you,
your zigzag life a quandary, a mystery fine,
and how I wish to know your thoughts
and how you see the likes of me,
as I a part of your sweet time.

Oh so lovely and delightful verse, Tony. I love dragonflies. Amazing how your thoughts about this little beauty is so enjoyable to read and paints a vivid image of the dragonfly. In myth, the dragonfly was once a dragon and had to grow smaller or perish. In most cultures a dragonfly is symbolic of self-realization and change. The way it skitters over water is symbolic of rising above the surface, seeking the deeper meaning and aspects of life. Marvelous creature.
Yes Phyllis, I’ve always been fascinated by them, and thanks for that mythology, I’ve not heard of that but now it adds to my wonder. Glad you enjoyed it. Take care.
