What Children See

I consider life and all its secrets,
yet what quells a heart in pleasured stillness
is the simplicity that we as children experience,
untainted by the complications of responsibility,
and open enough to allow
a clean uncompromising investment.

How different a child sees the world,
its treasured colours and movement a wonder,
an open mind witnessing transformations
and epiphanies that warm hearts
and ease worried minds
to a calm acceptance of reality.

Perhaps naive to the inner workings and motives of grown-ups,
children see a far great truth,
in the potential of what life can be, in its simplicity,
to see the ostensible beauty of hope residing,
within every moment, without cynicism
and the dark expectations of mistrust.

How I try to hold onto my child mind,
see life through clear eyes,
where possibility is not striken down by negativism,
rather, a yellow brick road of wonder and hope,
to inspire forward steps and imagination,
and to be delivered to fields untrodden,
and skies never beheld.

Lovely Tony…I believe there is little more precious than preserving the beauty and wonder of a child’s mind. I learn from observing my son everyday, how to regain a sense of appreciation for life’s beauty all around. To slow down, look around, from a tiny seed pod, to the grandest tree. It’s all a marvel to be explored. Enjoyed this, well done. Thank you.

    Best,
    Mel
