The Bite

Love can bite and ravage flesh,

The Bite…love’s other cheek.

Love can bite, and ravage flesh,
passion’s flight or cold revenge,
as minds in frenzy react and spew,
both darkness incarnate and lovers feud;
as we all bound in love’s silken tether,
turn feral in spite and hatred’s weather,
bring storms of wrath and pain to parry,
in wars of love we engage and marry
the darker side of loss.

Ironic that our greatest ecstasy,
can be the paths of such evil atrophy,
striking with pain a blissful kiss,
that once excited and hearts remiss,
now turn the rose to thorns and worse,
from love’s sweet refrain to demon’s curse,
and so our passion transforms to weapons,
tearing down what once was beckoned,
to a shadow of once held bliss.

There are always two sides to any coin.

Yes, “there are two sides to any coin.” Love is strange and powerful. Yet, still we seek it – human nature, I guess. Very expressive verse, Tony.

Only short but punchy I think, as to the reality of love and the losing of it. Glad you enjoyed it Phyllis. Thank you.

Thanks Bill, yes a lot of things in life seem like just chance, and as you say ;life can go either way with the turn of a penny. Glad you related.

Love, this short snappy verse that just bounces along. Both life and love can be like walking along the edge of a precipice, or as you say “the flip of a coin.” Good one, Tony.

Love this short, but meaning-packed, sensational (you are always striking my senses) poem! Striking shocking-pink colors behind the shadow in your image, as well. Yes, love is all these things, and you have expressed it brilliantly, my friend!
