Beyond Love

Beyond Love

Of all our yearning thoughts,
our desperate wants to fulfill,
love is but the only one worthy
of our ceaseless pursuit,
our heart in anticipation still.

And its blessing is threefold a gift,
a path of understanding, a selfless piety
and a focus shift;
and when love takes hold
a life transforms in perspective.

Love is blind,
for all else pales in its brilliant light,
and for moments we are transported to bliss,
a simple kiss, a touch as fiery
as a stars demise,
yet there is no compromise.

And when it fades from dreams,
we are crushed,
having learned to live on breath alone,
but love must grow be what is meant,
far more than that vacant glow.

Love pervades a soul,
finds commitment in its being,
and two souls must take a final step,
far beyond the dream,
and it is hard, a work ongoing.

But for those able to fulfill love’s needs,
there is a life above what seems,
a life of reward and shared struggle,
giving meaning and purpose to two hearts,
gleaned.
