Word Doubt

I have some doubts about engineering

that make this journey less then enduring.

Please help me to define what is modern,

I am falling back, a complete u-turn.

One hundred ten lines of this ancient chore,

Where to find another reader to bore.

Do these words display what it means to be

a man alone on this dreadful cold sea?

Lines drawn upon my own experience,

I have felt within this a selfish sense.

Here are these words that I feel are common,

these normal spirits I fear to summon.

When I hold these pages toward the sun

on bad days, I come home to hug my son

and mess up my daughters newly combed hair.

To play hide and seek with this smiling pair.

Each ray illuminates every word,

there is nothing in this light that’s absurd.

Playing with words is our art, as Poet’s we scramble like a jigsaw puzzle and place them in such an order that our readers absorb, digest and critique them. Yet only we know the true meaning behind each and every one of them we pen. We hope that our readers will understand what we are attempting to convey. Your work here has some twists that draw a reader in. Engineering creativity is fun. Letting the sun in on dreary days is a rewarding thing, especially when one goes home to their loved ones for the hugs. Well done Jamie you captured my attention.

One of my biggest doubts is the battle I have with free verse. I feel comfortable writing within the confines of a form that requires strict Rhythym and Rhyme.
