By Fireside
By Fireside …
The elegant sway of vines in breeze,
as autumn brushes aside the leaves, with
crisp-en browns and patchwork skins,
flutter in air released of sin,
to find in swarm of rustling kin, forestall
those remnants of season’s turn.
And hold they may to their drying stems,
each one released in time,
stripping bare those beauteous vines align,
and hold what modicum life within,
to weather winter’s soon to be
oppression.
Blankets grey of laden weight,
of silken sky disseminate,
all that vast and open blue once was,
now darkness holds the day to ransom,
and light-less dim the world beneath,
the sun a distant memory of warmth.
And creatures find in nests and burrows,
warm room nooks and dream filled bubbles,
relenting on the harsh outside,
to rug up cozy by fireside,
and lose a mind in words divine,
to pass away the time.

Wow, this is a great one for a long winter’s night, Tony! Made me want to just wrap up by a fire and be lulled to sleep. Very good!
Thanks Jackie, glad you enjoyed it and nothing like an open fire and a book to rid the bones of winter’s chill.
I thought I had commented on this Tony when you first posted it. I just found out I did not, sorry. I love this poem. It is cold here tonight and I would sure love to cozy up by a fireside. Very enjoyable to read and well penned.
Thanks Phyllis, the poems come so thick and fast I hardly remember all I’ve posted. Since the beginning of 2015 I’ve written over 2340 pages of poetry. crazy!
