In the Dark of Night
Never leave me in the dark of night …
If your feelings have altered,
but not changed much –
make me a promise to never leave me,
in the dark of night.
No longer a child,
the darkness still frightens me.
The hours of the night,
stretch like long reaching fingers.
So if your love toward me,
ceases to be –
one last time hold me in your arms,
till the morning light.
There are more nightmares,
in the dark of night,
than sweet dreams,
when you are alone.
So take my hand
and tell me true –
that your love for me
will always be.
If ever the winds of change,
come blowing over the horizon –
let me know so that
my heart can slowly grow cold.
Just remember,
as you turn to walk away –
let the sun be shining,
while tears cloud my eyes.
I know that I can go on alone,
as long as you leave me with hope.
That once you truly did love me
and never leave me in the dark of night.

Oh! Rasma, such a heartfelt poem. Love is expressed beautifully here, as well as the sadness of what could happen. Well done.
Thank you Phyliis.
Nicely penned, but sadly heavy with feelings. I hope your love will always hold you true and never let you go. Love is suppose to be forever, when we say “I Do”
It certainly is Vincent. One of those darker inspirations from the muses.
No time is a good time for losing a love and your stressing of dark of the night makes it stronger!
The night can be frightening or enchanting depending on the situation Jackie.
Beautiful, heart felt and emotive in every word. A artfully structured and expressed work with warmth and soul mixed with fear and blood and all that love can imbue in its favor, it remiss, it failing and the fears of loneliness. Great work, very much enjoyed Rasma.
Thank you Tony. The inspiration came in the dark of night and I wrote as the muses whispered and emotions were high….
Even a little “hope” can lift us through the darkness. Thank you. Jamie
You welcome Jamie.
