Free, Free, Free

Does Free really mean without charge? We see a multitude of offers everyday on-line promising us everything from no-cost software to skin treatments. But, most people know everything comes with a price…complimentary, if you are willing to pay.
Free, free, free
Search the net and you will see
Custom offers just for me
Games for kids to help them read
Grow some plants, here’s a seed
It’s what you want, what you need
The mobile app with hidden ads
Browser full of open tabs
The latest toys for college grads
Free TV for thirty days
Try a game, see how it plays
Pass some time on rainy days
File your taxes, it’s for nothing too
Enjoy a sample of a coffee brew
Maybe some tickets to the zoo
Online music, heard by all
Yes, today is your windfall
Slip from behind that eight ball
It’s given away for a simple price
An e-mail address will suffice
Take the chance, roll the dice
Just be certain that what you got
Is equal to the spam onslaught
Seems to me like you’ve bought
A giveaway with tangled strings
Electronic safety has taken wing
You’ve given up, your everything
Stick to things that are truly free
Speech and what your eyes can see
Green grass and the shade of a tree
In their midst no strings can cling
Real happiness they will bring
You may even have the urge to sing
Decide you must, the choice is yours
Stay inside behind stuck doors
Or boldly take a step outdoors

RJ, it is good to meet you. You have a good flow and rhythm with this piece. We have been given a precious freedom. The freedom to live. And may we all enjoy every moment.
Thanks Wayne -nice to meet you as well.
Yes indeed the barkers and sales media are abundant with FREE words. They offer FREEDOM but are we really, really free. I feel FREE in my country, and kiss the ground I walk on for the simplest FREEDOMS that we take for granted and other countries would kill to have. FREEDOM comes with a huge price tag for many around the world. So I agree let’s be cautious with the FREE word and who is giving them, because everything I’ve found, comes with a price. Nicely rhymed RJ and the message very clear to me.
RJ , I love this message , man , are we ever addicted to free things that are never free and you’re right , go outside and see what’s really free !
No strings attached in nature – thanks !
Great poem, Ralph. So many things are advertised as free until you read the fine print. Many a time I have seen “Free entry to win a car, iPad etc” only to find out that you have to sign up to dozens of other offers, or find out that you have signed up to text messages on your phone @ $3.50 per message or something similar. If something is free it is often too good to be true. Love your rhyme.
