Corruption

Corruption includes many criminal actions or actions which facilitate criminal enterprises.  It also includes misuse of power by an elected official, police brutality, and silencing political opposition.

Money Trade

Corruption

Corruption, it’s an activity

Twould be a crime for you and me

Embezzlement and bribery

From someone in authority

Managing communication

Steering through legislation

Selective mediation

For personal compensation

Petty, grand, or systemic

All the above makes us sick

Look over here, see the trick

Leave your pocket ripe to pick

Blackmail and extortion

Pay up or face deportation

See we have a secret apportion

Each receives their proportion

Then there’s fraud, a deception

Pockets lined from collections

Layers of misdirection

Get ready for the next election

Hire my son, its nepotism

His buddy too, favoritism

Need support, use clientelism

Turn an eye, at your discretion

Invest offshore, it’s what they say

Money hidden in some Cay

Retirement fund or rainy day

The hidden cost if you want to play

Legal here illegal there

Working out what goes where

Try to stop it, not a prayer

You’ll wind up in a wheelchair

Traffic drugs and people too

What’s the nation going to do?

Broken system, that we’re used to

Hoops we have to jump through

The vicious cycle called bureaucracy

Lost direction of democracy

Seems like an aristocracy

It’s the great hypocrisy

I write about everything and sometimes nothing at all. I'm fascinated by old things, rusty things, abandoned places, or anywhere that a secret might be unearthed. I'm passionate about history and many of my pieces are anchored in one concept of time or another. I've always been a writer, dating back to my youth, but the last decade has been a time of growth for me. I'm continually pushing the limitations of vocabulary, syntax, and descriptive phrasing.

It certainly is the great hypocrisy RJ. In this country a list has recently been released of the names of mult-million dollar companies and individuals who have been banking their money off-shore to avoid taxes. In recent years the government has been continually reducing the entitlements and living conditions of the low income earners at the expense of protecting big business and multi-nationals. The people have finally had enough and everything is being revealed publically. It appears the government may finally be forced to act and enforce taxation changes that target those rooting the system. Great poem with a very important message.

Corruption abounds as always, the rich keep getting richer and the poor get poorer. Nothing changes mate, this had been going on since the beginning of time. Man’s greed for the mighty gold and dollar will never subside., To put it all into perspective in a poem it brilliant. Writers and poets will always bring to light the corruptions of life. You did it splendidly sir and like John stated, just recently the shyt has hit the fan in a global way. Billions of dollars are being hidden to avoid the tax man, again nothing new. Gangsters have been doing it for years.

This poem is universal and that is the best thing (in my opinion) about this poem. I read it thinking about my country India and it was like you were talking about India. If someone from the US reads it he or she will think that you are talking about US. You have use the words beautifully and shown the true power of the pen.
