TCE Staff is considering running contests on poetry and fiction. It will take some time to work out the details. For now, we would like to get some opinions from all members.
Here are some things to think about before you reply.
– Would you be willing to pay $5.00 as an entry fee? This fee would go towards prizes, so the more people who join the better the prizes.
– We will have three winners: First place, second place, third place. We will open the contest to the public and advertise in our newsletter, on Facebook and Twitter.
– All TCE members are eligible to join and win, except John and myself.
– This could bring in more members to join us.
– To make the prizes more worthwhile, I am thinking we should not combine all categories, for the prize money would have to be spread too thin. We will have to have separate contests for poetry and fiction and at different times, with the entry fee for each contest.
Questions? Thoughts? Please share with us. Thank you.

We will have separate ones for poetry, short fiction stories etc. It is my idea that entries will be submitted anonymously to two or three guest judges who are proficient in each specific genre.

Our initial idea is to have monetary paying contests, but the only way to do that is to charge a fee that would go into prizemoney. If authors want to donate books as prizes etc we wouldn’t have to charge or if others are just happy with recognition as winner of a certain contest (like you) fine.
July 17, 2016 at 11:53 AM #6054AnonymousInactiveI would be willing to contribute $5 for the luck dip.
I suggest that the contest be focused on a narrow very specific topic to draw folk out of their comfort zones, and make the judgement easier. Something pithy and precise. Cheers!July 17, 2016 at 2:06 PM #6067Phyllis Doyle BurnsParticipantThat is a good idea, John. A narrow, very specific topic would be easier to judge also. Thanks for your thoughts.
