Caverns Deep…

Caverns Deep
Caverns Deep

Caverns deep, light-less shadows swirling
like an evening mist descending,
where lost thoughts find their place,
erased from a conscious mind,
awareness acutely vetted in kind,
until no rising can be aloft in moments worth.

Here in epiphany’s shadow,
remnant words not stuck in verse
or on pillars high with weight of girth,
attest a meaning worth its weight in gold,
wholly molded to sit within a mind,
a rational find of connection.

For all our words, our phrases and abstraction,
there are so many more disregarded,
refuse of the thoughts and actions of the mind,
left to wallow in those caverns deep,
where like lonely birds crying, words
circle with no purpose or carrion to take.

Like a Scrabble game, syllables awry,
fractures pieces in joining come alive,
find meaning to survive the thoughts we grasp,
and those lost untethered to life,
float about in strife with no completion.

In my caverns deep, lost thoughts reap
the empty versions of my paradigms,
half-baked ideas lost in time
and gathering like moss to my inner frosty truths,
the ruse that sees no light of day, but exists.

And as we become older,
those files so long stored in dark abyss,
must take up too much room to still exist,
and full we are of so much past,
when asked what is this word,
can I sort the pieces to answer?

Perhaps that’s memory, a soliloquy of admission,
that we are word inept, from recessions,
too clogged from all deceptions of the past,
stored in bulging lockers deep within,
and scrambling an old mind between what’s real and been,
sealed or too open to even last.

Thoughts and words can be forgotten if they linger in the deep canyons for too long. Sometimes, well often, things need to be spoken before they fade away. Someone once told me to express what is on your mind, always. I really like this work Tony. It opens up deep thoughts. Well done dear poet.
